The forfallsdato is when payment is expected under the agreement. Show a calendar date whenever possible and define what starts the day count.
The invoice forfallsdato is the date by which the Kunden is expected to pay an invoice under the agreed terms. It gives both parties a clear point for payment planning and follow-up. A forfallsdato should reflect the agreement; do not assume that every business uses the same default period.
How forfallsdatos are calculated
Start with the event named in the agreement—often the invoice date—then apply the number of days or the stated calendar date. For example, if an invoice is issued on 7. oktober 2026 and the agreed term is Net 30 counted from issue, adding 30 calendar days gives 6 November 2026. If a contract defines a different starting point or day-count convention, follow that definition.
Common ways to state a forfallsdato
- Due on receipt: payment is expected when the Kunden receives the invoice; state a clear date or explanation if timing needs precision.
- Net 7 / Net 14: payment is due seven or fourteen days after the agreed starting point.
- Net 30 / Net 60: payment is due thirty or sixty days after the agreed starting point.
- Custom date or milestone: specify an actual date or the event that starts the payment period.
Calendar days or business days?
Do not assume a day count excludes weekends. State “calendar days” or “business days” where the distinction matters and make sure that wording matches the agreement. The calculator can skip weekends when you select business-day mode, but it does not include public holidays.
Make the forfallsdato easy to understand
Showing both the term and a calendar date can reduce ambiguity—for example, “Net 30; due 6 November 2026.” Check the date when an invoice is reissued, a deposit is paid or the terms are changed. A reminder should refer to the fakturanummer and the stated forfallsdato.
Example
A supplier issues invoice INV-2026-014 on 7. oktober 2026. Their written agreement says Net 30 from invoice date. The invoice displays “Due 6 November 2026.” The Kunden can now distinguish the payment deadline from the invoice date and the service period.

Problems this guide helps you solve
- Choosing the right document for the current stage of the deal (proposal, bill or payment record).
- Avoiding vague descriptions, missing dates or unclear payment instructions that delay settlement.
- Keeping numbers, statuses and follow-ups aligned with what actually happened—not assumptions.
Decision checklist
- Confirm the agreement stage: proposal, accepted work, billing or payment received.
- Verify parties, currency, references (PO/project) and unique document numbers.
- Make the amount due and the next Kunden action obvious.
- Save a copy and record how the document was delivered or how payment was matched.
Common mistakes
- Sending a proposal labelled as an invoice before billing is appropriate.
- Reusing document numbers or leaving critical dates blank.
- Marking something paid before funds are confirmed in your records.
- Omitting payment instructions or using a forfallsdato that conflicts with written terms.
Next steps
Draft or adjust the document in the free fakturagenerator, then review related guides linked on this page. Requirements can vary by jurisdiction—confirm what applies to your situation.
Does Net 30 always mean 30 days after the invoice date?
Not necessarily. The agreement should say what event starts the count and whether days are calendar or business days. Put the actual forfallsdato on the invoice where possible.
Do business-day forfallsdatos skip public holidays?
Not in this calculator. Its business-day option skips weekends only; it has no public-holiday calendar. Check local dates and the agreement yourself.
What does due on receipt mean?
It generally asks the Kunden to pay when the invoice is received. If a specific date or grace period is intended, spell it out rather than relying on an ambiguous phrase.
What should I check before sending this document?
Confirm parties, unique number, dates, line descriptions, totals, currency, payment instructions and that the document matches the agreement stage.
Can software decide my tax or legal treatment?
No. Editable tax fields and calculators perform arithmetic from values you enter. Registration, eligibility and required wording depend on your situation and local rules.
Where should I keep records?
Store the final document with related quotes, orders, timesheets or payment confirmations on your own systems. Browser autosave on this site is local to the device, not a cloud archive.
