A GST invoice is a billing document used within a particular goods-and-services tax system. GST systems differ by country, so there is no universal GST invoice checklist.
A GST invoice is a billing document used in a jurisdiction that applies a goods-and-services tax. It records a supply and may display tax information. The phrase “GST invoice” does not describe one shared set of rules: India, Australia, Canada and Singapore have different systems, requirements and official guidance.
Common concepts, different systems
A GST-related invoice may identify a supplier, customer, transaction, invoice number and date, taxable amount, rate, tax amount and total. Which details are required—and whether the supplier should charge or display GST—depends on the country, registration, supply, customer and other circumstances. Some systems also have specialized electronic invoicing or reporting obligations.

Check the correct country guidance
- India: consult the current CBIC rules and GST portal material; requirements can depend on the transaction and applicable provisions.
- Australia: the ATO explains tax invoices and the information applicable to different sale types.
- Canada: the CRA publishes GST/HST invoice and receipt guidance; GST/HST and provincial taxes are not one generic system.
- Singapore: IRAS explains tax invoices, customer accounting and related GST documents.

What a GST invoice usually shows (general)
- Supplier identity and any registration number required in that system
- Customer details when the rules require them
- Unique invoice number and issue date
- Description of the supply, quantity and amounts
- Taxable amount, GST rate you have determined applies, GST amount and total
Exact field lists differ by country and transaction type. For a broader taxonomy, see what is a tax invoice. For VAT systems, use the VAT invoice guide instead.
Use the correct invoice workflow
- Select the country mode that matches your invoice context.
- Confirm current registration and invoice requirements with the relevant authority.
- Enter a tax label and rate only after you have determined that they apply.
- Review item descriptions, tax calculation, currency and total.
- Use any mandated government or platform e-invoice process where applicable; a downloadable PDF may not replace that process.
The GST calculator uses a rate you provide and does not verify local tax law. A tax invoice template is only a starting layout—not a compliance certificate.

Frequently asked questions
Are GST invoice rules the same in India and Australia?
No. Each country has its own legislation and tax authority guidance. Use the current official source for the jurisdiction and transaction in question.
Does the GST calculator validate a GST rate?
No. It performs arithmetic using the rate you enter. It does not determine registration, eligibility, tax treatment or whether a rate is current.
Is a GST invoice the same as a tax invoice?
In some countries the official term is “tax invoice” within a GST system. The labels overlap in everyday speech, but requirements are jurisdiction-specific—do not treat them as one global format.
Can I create a GST invoice online here?
You can prepare an invoice with a GST tax label and a rate you enter in the relevant country mode. The tool does arithmetic only; it does not certify GST compliance or replace mandated e-invoice systems.
