What is a work order?

A work order authorizes or tracks a job, assigned person, schedule and materials.

When to use it

Use the job status and site fields to coordinate work; convert billable labor/materials to an invoice when appropriate.

Next step: When the job is ready to bill, use Convert to Invoice to prepare a separate billing draft from the work-order details. Review which work and materials are chargeable, then check the customer, amounts and tax settings.

Key fields

  • Work Order No: and the date fields appropriate to this document.
  • Business and counterparty details, with country and currency settings where relevant.
  • Document-specific rows and optional notes, references or terms.
  • Status choices: Open, Scheduled, In Progress, Completed, Cancelled.

How to create one

  1. Review the editable example and enter the parties, reference and dates.
  2. Add or adjust the document rows; confirm quantities, amounts and country settings when relevant.
  3. Review the document-specific preview, then download the PDF or use Print.
